Portrait Of The Artist

Peter Baker was born on the Essex coast in 1948 but moved to London where he lived for 20 years. During that time he won scholarships to study graphic design at Hornsey College of Art, and later to continue his studies in painting and drawing at Byam Shaw School of Art.

As a young boy it was recognised thet he possessed outstanding visual talents and was selected to show work at the Mall Galleries in 1958; aged ten; he has been exhibiting paintings and drawings in galleries and one/two man shows ever since. His work also features in many private collections in the U.K.

Moving to the Westcountry in 1972 he then trained as a teacher of art at Bath College of Higher Education and then at Bristol University, subsequently he taught drawing and painting classes/workshops in schools and Community Education. In 2010 Peter was accepted as an associate member of The Society of Graphic Fine Art and his artwork featured in their annual exhibition at the Menier Gallery, London

Although Peter has a natural affinity to the sea and marine art, his primary area of specialization is working from the figure and he is recognised as an expert in this field by his fellow artists and students. He has also taught this subject at all levels, from beginners to professional artists.

His next challenge is to paint and draw the Dartmoor National Park capturing its bleak isolation and beauty; to be exhibited at a later date.

These unique and 'modern' drawings and paintings only represent a sample from one portfolio, and they are not available as reproductions; yet.
